THE AMERASIAN (CONT'D)
THE AMERASIAN (CONT'D)
My only hope is that you will
somehow forgive me and give me a
chance to redeem myself. I want to
see her again very much, but I am
afraid you won't allow it. Is she
well now?
The man cannot believe what he is hearing with his ears. In the twilight
gloom, the face of the black Amerasian does not look fierce or cruel,
but rather remorseful and sincere. He is almost on his knees as he
says these words. The hatred in the old man's heart suddenly melts as
he realizes that the young man is speaking the truth. The old man now
speaks in a slow and measured tone.
THE MAN
So, what do you intend to do now?
The Amerasian maintains his near kneeling position.
THE AMERASIAN
I told her that I would marry her
in a few years after I return from
America. However, because of the
incident, I will discuss this with
my mother and then come to talk to
you. I will not let her down or
disappoint you.
THE MAN
(Knitting his eyebrows)
But your mother already told me
otherwise.
He grasps the old man's hand.
