Greenpeace activists converged on Esso's headquarters in Irving, Texas to charge the oil giant with crimes against the climate as the company prepared for its annual general meeting on May 28.

Fifteen members of our Global Warming Crimes Unit secured themselves to the main gate and 30 more activists foiled the company's 'high security' and entered the compound.

Some members actually got inside the building, while others made it to the roof, where they unfurled a banner branding the building a "global warming crime scene."

Esso stands accused of running a 10-year campaign of sabotage against international efforts to solve global warming. The list of charges handed to Esso executives was accompanied by pages of evidence against the company.

Copies of classified documents and letters demonstrate the unique role that Esso has played in sabotaging action on global warming, fraudulently misrepresenting the science, and lying to the world.

The company has used its influence and money to block agreements that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Recent figures show Esso gives millions of dollars to ultra-conservative groups that aggressively lobby against action to protect our climate and direct President Bush's reckless energy policies.

Our Global Warming Crimes Unit is made up of volunteers from around the world, including the UK.
