Northstar: boarding

Northstar: boarding

We're on!! Later than planned and not without the odd crisis on the trip but all six of us are onboard along with most of the equipment that is to keep us warm, dry and communicating with the outside world.

The tugmaster came on board and remonstrated with us initially but finally returned to his tug and carried on towing.

This thing is monstrous. It's about 130 metres long and is carrying a three storey control centre and accommodation block and loads of rusting racks of pipeline. There is equipment of all shapes and sizes lashed to most parts of the deck all destined to play a key part in the oil business.

We have hung a banner from the top of the control centre and have set up a campaign office inside. This is probably where we will make our home as it has comfy looking bunks and although it isn't warm at least it is sheltered. Unfortunately there is hardly any natural daylight getting in, especially along the ,corridors which is making navigating a bit tricky but a combination of torches and shouting instructions seems to be working
