Why is Esso worse than any other oil company?
At least other oil companies seem to admit that global warming is an issue and that they might be willing to do something about it. I know for instance that BP produces solar panels and wind turbines so that at least seems to be a step in the right direction even if they still sell petrol. I think Esso are still the worst of a bad lot all the stuff about them bribing George Bush and getting him to get out of the Kyoto treaty and then sacking the UN Scientist is just awful and anti- democratic for one thing.

What time did you get here this morning ?
Well I got here about 9.30 we were going to try to set up for about 10 oclock because we were thinking some of the press might be coming along, but I plan to be here till about 3 oclock.

What have you been doing throughout the day so far?
Until now Ive been at the exit of the garage trying to hand out leaflets to people who have already bought from Esso and trying to change their minds, if they will stop and talk to me then great.

What has the atmosphere been like?
I think it has been good, I think that the presence of Julia Sawalha makes a nice boost and the press being here that is a good sign. The amount of protesters here is great, its amazing it must make a real impact.

How many motorists have you spoken to?
Probably around twenty and their reactions have been different some have been really friendly and have said oh well I wont buy again.

What is your message to motorists who are still buying from Esso?
That they should think about their actions. I think that I lot of people dont think that what they do will effect a corporation as big as Esso or a government to change the law. I think that if people actually sat down and thought what they did and what their actions were, and maybe read the leaflets which are really good, they would buy somewhere else.

What would you message to Esso be?
Change, change your company they are being really stupid even just for business reasons. They are going to run out of oil in twenty to thirty years time so they are going to be selling a product which doesnt exist and at the same time renewable sources of energy are going to be just massive in the next twenty to thirty years. At least just from a business point of view they are being really stupid.

And finally what do you think the impact of todays nation wide protest will be?
I think the idea at the beginning was to raise the profile of the Stop Esso campaign. To make the message clear to more people, that they shouldnt be buying from Esso. They should be thinking about what they buy and that they should go somewhere else and I would hope that would do that. If most Esso stations across the country are going to be the subject of this kind of protest during the day then I dont think people can fail to see it and to see what is going on. Also it was only five months since the last one I think that stays quite fresh in peoples minds.
