Flashmob at Heathrow

Flashmob at Heathrow's Terminal 5.

Upcoming events for all those opposed to further airport expansion:

16 Nov: Direct Action Training in West London

In response to the request from the conference in July a direct action training session has been arranged for Sunday 16th November, 11am - 5pm, at a venue in West London. A light lunch will be provided. Even if you are just curious about direct action, come along. It doesn't commit you to taking direct action if you feel it is not for you.

With the decision on Heathrow expansion expected in December, this training session could not be more timely. In addition to getting some basic direct action training, we will be discussing what kind of things we might do if the decision goes against us.

A limited number of places still available. Email: jdm.stewart@virgin.net

17 Nov: Public meeting in Chiswick

Monday 17 November, 7pm - 9pm; Old Chiswick Film Theatre, George IV pub, 185 Chiswick High Street, W4 2DR (5 mins from Turnham Green station).

The World Development Movement, the development lobby group that is part of the coalition against Heathrow expansion, invites people to join them "for a thought-provoking evening of short films, speakers and discussion". Speakers include Benedict Southworth (Director of WDM) and John Stewart of HACAN. To book your free place please email: register@wdm.org.uk or call 020 7820 4900

29 Nov: "Are you listening, Gordon" stunt in Hounslow

Saturday 29th November, 11.00 - 11.30am, Lampton Park, Lampton Road, Hounslow

Are you listening, Gordon? Say NO to ALL expansion at Heathrow - NO to a 3rd runway - NO to a 6th terminal - NO to busier runways and all day noise

A number of people will be wearing Gordon Brown masks and big ears, with a tape of aircraft noise playing in the background. Probably our last chance, before the Government decision, to get persuade Gordon Brown to listen to us (thus the idea of the ears!)

National Climate March

Saturday December 6th 2008, assemble 12 noon, Speakers Corner, Hyde Park, London.

A march to Parliament to demand that the government acts on climate now, organised by the Campaign Against Climate Change, also part of the coalition to stop Heathrow expansion. The march will start at 12 noon at Speakers Corner, Hyde Park. Speakers will include Nick Clegg (leader Liberal Democrat Party), Caroline Lucas (leader, Green party), Michael Meacher (ex-environment minister) and George Monbiot (Honorary President, Campaign against Climate Change).

The March to Parliament has four main themes -

  1. NO to a 3rd runway at Heathrow and the runaway expansion in aviation
  2. NO new coal - no new coal-fired power stations as planned at eg Kingsnorth >in Kent
  3. NO to the expansion of agrofuels - with negative impacts on forests, the climate and world food supply.
  4. YES to a renewable energy revolution and green jobs

Decision day flash mob

On the first Saturday after the government's decision on Heathrow (expected in December).

Unless *all* expansion plans are dropped, a Flash Mob will take place at midday (on the dot!) in the Departures section of Terminal 5. Be ready to come! Red t-shirts desirable but not essential! It will only last a few minutes but will be an immediate chance to demonstrate our feelings if expansion is given the go-ahead.
