Morrisons - 5th in our Tuna League Table

After a slow start, Morrisons began to show a more serious commitment to sustainable fish sourcing, introducing a sustainable seafood procurement policy in 2006.

amber question Morrisons do not stock own label yellow fin tuna lines but by buying skipjack purse seined with Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), the company continues to contribute to the pressure on stocks of both yellow fin and big eye.
amber question Morrison’s tins always specify the species of tuna, but not the method by which it was caught
red_x Much of Morrisons' tuna comes from comes from purse seiners with no restriction on the use of FADs.
red_x Marine reserves are critical to ensuring the long term viability of tuna and other fish stocks, but Morrisons has so far failed to express public support for their establishment.

 

Verdict: Needs to do more to break into the top four, but some positive signs.
