Tesco's - no 6 in our tuna league table

amber question In June this year Tesco moved to delist own label Yellowfin tuna lines due to concerns over the sustainability of larger tuna species. Unfortunately, by buying skipjack purse seined with Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), Tesco continues to contribute to the pressure on yellow fin and big eye stocks.
amber question Tesco made positive progress on improving their general seafood policy in the last few years, but there is still work to do in improving commitments and imposing time-lines and targets for more ambitious change.
red_x Tesco fails to tell you what kind of tuna is inside its tins and how the fish was caught.
red_x The majority of Tesco's tuna comes from comes from purse seiners with no restriction on the use of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs).
red_x Marine reserves are critical to ensuring the long term viability of tuna and other fish stocks, but Tesco has so far failed to express public support for their establishment.

Verdict: It's a long way to the top from sixth place, and a company of this size should be doing much more to help when it comes to tinned tuna.
