Greenpeace has brought its ship the Beluga II on an expedition of scientific research around Scotland

Last month our ship the Beluga II set sail on a two-month scientific expedition around Scotland investigating the impact of ocean plastic pollution on some of the UK’s most beautiful landscapes and wildlife.

Old-growth spruce-dominated forest in Russia

This year's global celebration's theme is "Forests and Climate Change". The International Day of Forests raises awareness about the alarming rate of deforestation, which not only accounts for 12 to 20 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions through forest fires, but also threatens the livelihood of Indigenous Peoples.
