Rare white humpback whale filmed in the Arctic

The whale, dubbed "Willow", was caught on camera while breaching the surface with a pod of humpbacks. The extremely rare white humpback was spotted on a boat trip off the coast of Svalbard, Norway, in the pristine waters of the Arctic Circle. Willow resembles the mythical white whale, Moby Dick.

On 22nd October BP plc announced it had agreed heads of terms to sell its 50% stake in TNK-BP - their partner in Russia for much the last troubled 15 years - to Rosneft, a company owned largely by the Russian State. BP's official announcement of the proposed deal focusses on the benefits of Rosneft's 2011 oil reserve additions and their sizeable dividend of 25%.

British Antarctic Survey merger dropped: Greenpeace response

Responding to the decision not to proceed with the merger of the British Antarctic Survey and National Oceanography Centre, Vicky Wyatt, Greenpeace arctic campaigner said:

“The British Antarctic Survey is a wonderful institution. It is rightly world renowned and has done great work in helping us protect one of the most fragile and beautiful areas on the planet.
