HISTORICAL NOTE
The committee was organized on a nationwide basis to assist in the employment of loyal Japanese Americans (Nisei) who were evacuated from their Pacific Coast homes after December 7, 1941. The committee was sponsored by organizations such as the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America, the YWCA, and the YMCA.
The committee also worked with the War Relocation Authority, the government agency established to expedite the evacuation and employment of the evacuees, and the United States Employment Service. The membership of the committee, however, was entirely volunteer. Genevieve Steefel was the Minneapolis Chapter secretary.
