The ban came to effect 14 days ago and it shall remain in place until further notice.

According to reliable information reported to Nyamilepedia, Uror County Commissioner, Tang Chatim said they have so far impounded and burnt at least 36 cartons of ‘Royal Jins’ that were purchased and transported over by traders from the Capital, Juba, with intent to make extra money.

“We also banned the preparation, sale, and consumption of the locally made alcohol,” Commisioner Chatim told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday.

The commissioner boasts that the new order has restored some stability and more is yet to come.

He stressed that before taking oath of office, at least 15 people were killed in alcoholic related fighting but calmed has returned since the new order was introduced.

“Before I assumed office, we lost more than 15 young people in fighting caused by alcohol consumption in parts of the county. Now, such violence is reduced,” he lamented.

Lt. Col. Gatbel Machar, the Uror County police inspector, said local residents have heeded to the ban after incurring losses following the alcohol impoundment and subsequent destruction.

Many local residents in the area applauded the ban including Pal Riek who described the order as an avenue which will help in maintaining “law and order” in Jonglei and Uror County in particular.
