December 20, 2021—Former Warrap State Minister of Information and now the SPLM-IO Chairperson for Abyei Administration Area has asked her party’s leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, to call-off her nomination as Deputy Minister of Information after president Kiir repeatedly declined to appoint her.
In a letter addressed to FVP Dr. Riek Machar, Nyanagwek requests the FVP to withdraw her nomination saying that her appointment should not circumvent the implementation of the peace deal.
Nyanagwek accused President Kiir of using her appointment as a tactic to delay R-ARCSS implementation and as such urging Machar not to fall into Salva Kiir’s delay tactics.
“Despite your persistent commitment and continuous push for my appointment since February 2021 in the prescribed SPLM-IO quota, the other party gave themselves an unfounded right to veto the SPLM-IO nomination which is part of their delay tactic in the implementation of the R-ARCISS,” Nyanagwek stated in a statement obtained by Nyamilepedia.
The former state minister, who is also a senior members of the SPLM/A-IO, asks her party chairman to replace her with another comrade as Deputy Minister of Interior.
“I have solemnly decided to abort their plan and request your Excellency to withdraw my nomination In order for you to have a free hand of replacement instead of keeping the position of SPLM-IO vacant during this interim period,” she added.
Cde. Nyanagwek was nominated in February 2021 by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar as a replacement to Mabior Garang who resigned as Deputy Minister of Interior last 10 months but President Kiir refused to decree her appointment leaving the position vacant for nearly a year
It is not clear why President rejected Nyanagwek’s nomination but Dr. Machar has, however, insisted on his decision that his choice for the Deputy Minister is Nyanagwek – leaving the two men at a loggerhead for nearly a year.
