The candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, has won the highly contested Plateau North senatorial election rerun.

INEC’s returning officer, Nestor Chagok announced the results of the Saturday election.

The announcement was shared by JayFM on X.

Mr Dachungyang won with 122,442 votes.

The candidate of the NNPP, Yakub Muhammad, scored 53,980. Chris Giwa of the APC polled 39,132 to come a distant third.

Gyang Zi of the Labour Party had 33,243 votes.

The ADP candidate, relatively unpopular, was a preferred choice after the exclusion of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates Simon Mwadkwon and Musa Agah Avia from the ballot.

With the PDP’s exclusion, party leaders, including former Governor Jonah David Jang, rallied behind Mr Dachungyang.

The rerun was ordered by the Xourt of Appeal following a petition by Mr Zi and PRP’s Mohammad Adam Alkali, challenging the victories of PDP candidates in the February 2023 elections.
