The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 governorship election in Katsina State, Senator Yakubu Lado, has supported some internally displaced persons in the state with food.

The gesture is meant to cushion the effect of the present economic challenges on them and to give the IDPs a sense of belonging.

Mr Lado, who made the disclosure while disbursing scholarships to some students on Sunday in Katsina, said the gesture was to reduce the IDPs’ suffering due to economic hardship, especially during the fasting period.

According to him, it is part of his Ramadan assistance to various groups across the state, covering journalists, students, women, youths and politicians, among others.

The former senator said he had opened hundreds of feeding centres across the state where less-privileged people receive grains and cooked food to cushion the effects of inflation and hunger.

He said other targeted beneficiaries included orphans, widows, physically challenged persons and students who received various forms of scholarships.

A cross-section of beneficiaries, who spoke to journalists, commended the governorship candidate for the gesture and appealed to other politicians, private organisations, and government at all levels, as well as other well-to-do individuals, to emulate the kind initiative.
