Governor Nasir Idris says his government, in collaboration with POBITECH Consultancy Service, has commenced training 2,400 primary school teachers.

The governor, who disclosed this on Tuesday while declaring the training opened at Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, said the training followed his administration’s revolution in the state education sector.

He urged teachers, parents and other relevant stakeholders to join hands with his administration to move the education sector forward.

“Let me use this medium to inform this gathering that I’m going to give more priority to the welfare of teachers. This administration will support the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE).

“We are going to modify and strengthen its operations to conform with the needs of our society,” Mr Idris assured.

While urging the participants to be committed to the training, Mr Idris reiterated his administration’s readiness to key into anything that would promote and project the teaching profession.

Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic rector Usman Sani-Tunga commended the governor for the initiative, describing training and retraining of teachers as the best way to drive the sector to prosperity.

He assured the Kebbi government that the institution would do its best to give the trainees quality training using qualified and professional trainers.

The chair of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Suleiman Khalid, said the training had been divided into six units, with 400 participants in each unit.

Mr Khalid, who listed English, Mathematics and pedagogical skills as subjects for the training, said the programme was scheduled to last two weeks.
