The North-East Development Commission has donated two solar-powered boreholes and 50 solar-powered street lights to light up Church premises in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Borno branch Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Fr. John Bakeni, confirmed the donation on Thursday, when he led the leadership of the group on a thank-you visit to the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, in Maiduguri, Borno.

Mr Bakeni lauded the commission for its interventions in all sectors.

He also thanked the Federal Government for its foresight in establishing the commission.

According to him, the commission has impacted positively on the lives of citizens in the sub-region as they recover from the impact of insurgency in the region.

Mr Bakeni said, “We have come here as a body just to say thank you and encourage you and the commission for the beautiful work you are doing. We thank the Federal Government for seeing it necessary to establish such a strategic organisation to ensure the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the region affected by insurgency.”

The clergyman assured the commission of the sustained support of the association to continue to deliver on its laudable programmes of reviving the region.

Responding, the NEDC boss thanked the leadership of CAN for the visit and assured the body of the commission’s commitment to remain focused on its mission and vision.

Mr Alkali said that the commission’s door would continue to remain open to stakeholders for advice on ways to transform the region.

The NEDC, established in 2017, has the mission to lead in the reconstruction and development of the region devastated by over a decade-long insurgency.
