Yetunde Adeyanju, erstwhile Commissioner for Water and Sanitation, in Ondo has resigned from Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s cabinet.

Mrs Adeyanju’s resignation came a few hours after she was re-deployed from the Ministry by governor Akeredolu to the Ministry of Planning and Urban Development.

Mr Akeredolu had announced a rejig in his cabinet, shortly after he inaugurated two new commissioners in the state.

The new commissioners are Akinwumi Sowore and Jacob Ologbese.

Mr Sowore was assigned to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs while Mr Ologbese is to oversee the Ministry of Regional Integration and Diaspora.

However, Mrs Adeyanju was part of three old commissioners affected by the cabinet reshuffle.

The two other commissioners are; Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the former Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora was redeployed to the Ministry of Information and Orientation while the former Commissioner for Physical and Urban Development, Fatai Aburumaku, was redeployed to the Ministry of Water and Sanitation.

In a copy of the letter seen by People’s Gazette, Mrs Adeyanju thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Ondo.

“I hereby resign my appointment as a Commissioner in Ondo State with immediate effect,” the commissioner said.

She added in the letter that she wanted to explore other endeavours outside politics for now.

“My decision is predicated on a personal conviction to explore other endeavours outside politics for now.

“However, I’m grateful to you for the golden opportunity given to me to contribute to the growth of our dear state, especially with the Kamomi Aketi Rural Water Supply.

“You gave me the platform and I’m proud that I used it well for the good of humanity. Kamomi Aketi Water Scheme remains the joy of thousands of rural dwellers today.

“Once again, I thank you for the opportunity to serve”, it read.

Mrs Adeyanju’s resignation might not be unconnected with the change of her portfolio from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Efforts by our reporter to contact the commissioner proved abortive as her lines were not connecting at the time of this report.

One of her aides who spoke briefly in a chat with The Gazette, however, said she would be willing to speak anytime soon.

“Madam (Adeyanju) is not available for an interview for now because she is not happy but she will speak when it’s time for her to do so,” he said.
