A security guard, Alphonsus Olegbo, was on Wednesday docked in the Karu Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing 30 pieces of women’s gowns worth N540,000.

The police charged Mr Olegbo, who lives in Mararaba, Nassarawa State, with criminal conspiracy, shop breaking and theft.

The prosecution counsel, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the defendant, the security guard of the complainant’s shop and others at large, broke into her shop in Karu, Abuja and stole 30 pieces of women’s gowns worth N540, 000.

Mr Adeyanju said during the police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory explanation of all the allegations against him.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The offence, he said, contravenes sections 97(2), 353 and 288 of the penal code.

The judge, Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendant N600,000 bail with two sureties.

Mr Mohammed ordered that the sureties must live within the court’s jurisdiction, address verified by the court officer, and provide national ID cards, which must be kept in the court.

He adjourned the case until November 3 for further hearing.
