Sharia Court

An area court sitting in Ilorin on Tuesday dissolved an Islamic marriage between one Roimat Qodir and AbdulRazak Qodir.

The presiding judge, Abdulqadir Umar, said the wife requested a divorce, saying she was no longer interested in her one-year marriage due to a lack of love.

Mr Umar, however, asked the wife if she was pregnant for the husband, and she denied it.

The husband said he did not have any objection to the wife’s request, saying she was free to go.

The court dissolved the marriage and ordered the wife to observe three months of Iddah (waiting period) as prescribed by Shariah law.
