The Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity is a $1 million biennial global humanitarian award that recognizes and supports individuals who risk their own lives to save the lives of others suffering from violent conflict and atrocity crimes. 

With its unique participatory grant model, the Prize directs $300,000 to the Laureate and a further $600,000 to other impactful humanitarians, as designated by the Laureate, continuing the cycle of giving. Additionally, the two Aurora Humanitarians (Finalists) receive a one-time payment of $50,000 each ($100,000 in total). 

Beyond the award, Aurora dedicates resources to establish a sustained, bespoke, 24-month partnership with the Laureate, including advocacy efforts to advance effective support for local humanitarians and for policies and programs that support an end to the crisis to which he or she is responding, targeted engagement with the global humanitarian community through participation in global convenings, and increased visibility for the Laureates work through expanded storytelling efforts and engagement with press and media to ensure local voices are not just included, but regularly highlighted in news coverage and analysis.
