10 EXT. THE CEMETERY - EVENING
THE MAN sits by his daughter's bed as she lies there. Dark and painful
thoughts fill his mind. Meanwhile, THE AMERASIAN wanders around
the cemetery and secretly observes the girl's house. Several times
throughout the night, he quietly approaches her house and then
retreats to the large tomb where he had his conversation with the girl in
the afternoon.
11 EXT. A HAMLET ROAD - MORNING (FLASHBACK)
The Amerasian remembers how, when he was a little boy playing with
other kids, they used to call him a "bastard" and "Amerasian" even
though he was bigger, taller, and stronger than any of them.
He remembers how he cried and ran toward his mother to tell her what
the other kids had said. All she could do was to hug him tightly and cry
silently.
12 INT. THE GIRL'S HOME - EVENING (FLASHBACK)
The Amerasian remembers how he met the girl for the first time, when
he saw her carrying a heavy load of sticks or a large pail of water and
offered to carry it for her. After a while, they became friends and were
seen talking to each other.
13 EXT. THE CEMETERY - EVENING (FLASHBACK)
In the afternoon, the Amerasian invites the girl to go with him to a big
tomb in the cemetery to talk. She happily follows him. They sit and talk
with their backs against the tomb, which has a large and shady roof.
Watching the innocent girl plucking and releasing into the wind the
yellow petals of a small flower, he feels an ache in his heart. He speaks
to her.
