19 INT. THE BLACK AMERASIAN'S HOME – EVENING
After the departure of the emaciated man, the Amerasian's mother is so
tired she can barely drag herself to her bed to rest. She thinks and
thinks about the past and reminisces.
20 INT. THE BLACK AMERASIAN'S HOME – EVENING
(FLASHBACK)
Scenes of the woman's life with her previous husband. He was an
unemployed nobody, a gambler and a drunk, who liked to beat her up.
He died from a stroke while drunk.
21 EXT. US MILITARY BARRACK - MORNING (FLASHBACK)
A US military barrack near the township. The barrack is on a treeless
hilltop and surrounded by barbed wire. It has a couple of guard towers.
Several GIs can be seen walking back and forth. Some GIs are joking
with the Vietnamese women working inside the barrack.
Some GIs are sitting by themselves reading letters from home. Some
are crying.
A tall, robust black GI is paying his attention to the mother of the
Amerasian. He gives her some canned food and cigarettes. They
communicate by gestures.
22 INT. THE HOME OF THE BLACK AMERASIAN'S MOTHER -
EVENING (FLASHBACK)
The black GI and the mother of the Amerasian are living in the same
house. They have sex on the bed a few times.
