The man stands for a moment as if deciding what to do next and then
says.
THE MAN
May I come in to speak with you
please?
THE AMERASIAN'S MOTHER
Yes, please come in.
18 INT. THE BLACK AMERASIAN'S HOME - AFTERNOON
The Amerasian's mother invites the man into the living room where
there is a used set of furniture. She politely offers him some water in
a dirty and yellowish glass.
The man hesitates a bit because he does not know how to start the
conversation. In the end, he decides to begin with a cautious, probing
question.
THE MAN
Did your son come home last night
and talk to you about anything?
The question surprises the mother.
THE AMERASIAN'S
He was out all night and stayed at
a friend's home. He didn't come
back until morning. He didn't talk
about anything special.
The man hesitates for a moment as if trying to find a way to talk around
the issue about which he has come. But then the feelings burning up
inside him make him overcome his caution.
