THE MAN
This may seem intrusive, but may I
ask you a question: What would you
think if your son had committed the
crime of rape?
The woman opens her eyes wide in horror to stare at the man in front
of her. She reacts immediately.
THE AMERASIAN'S
No. Never. My son is a
good boy. He
would never do that... Who are you
to defame my son? What do you want?
THE MAN
Please stay calm, madam. I
understand your state of mind. But
please listen to me. I live in a
neighborhood. My house is at the
end of the hamlet near the
cemetery. Last night, your son
raped my daughter, an only 16-year-
old girl. She is still unconscious
at home. My suffering and confusion
are one hundred times greater than
yours. Please do not defend your
son. He has done a despicable thing
and now must take responsibility.
Do you understand that?
The woman listens as the man speaks without stopping. Doubts cross
her mind, but her maternal instincts take over, and she immediately
launches into a defense of her son.
THE AMERASIAN'S MOTHER
Why would anyone believe you? Where
is your proof? Are you trying to
take advantage of my son? He has
been sponsored to go to America.
