One more (slightly belated) piece of news from the 100% Design exhibition comes in the form of an award. The light bulb used in Jason Bruges' installation has been given the inaugural award for innovative lighting design by the event's organisers, recognising the fact that it is the world's first fully dimmable energy efficient bulb.
One of the main practical issues people have had with compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) is that they can't be dimmed in the same way as incandescent bulbs. However, seven years in the making, the Varilight bulb works with a normal dimmer switch so now even your mood lighting can be ultra-efficient. Environmentally-conscious lounge lizards will certainly be pleased.
And if you haven't already, you can see this wondrous bulb in action in our short film.
