"Greenest Government" halves solar subsidies

The self-styled "greenest government ever" has cut feed-in-tariffs for solar power by half, doubling the length of time it will take homeowners to receive payback and risking thousands of jobs in a growing industry in manufacturing and installing solar panels.

Almost one year ago to the day, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said something that made a lot of sense: “Brazil can expand its agricultural production without cutting.”  I agree. One year later, however, the president appears more focused on infrastructure projects that will cause further deforestation, rather than to stop it.

Tommy Crawford, communications manager on the Detox campaign, reveals the latest success story in getting clothing brands to ditch toxic chemicals.

As fashion-lovers around the world ponder over which clothes to add to their Christmas wishlists, news about a different list linked to the fashion industry has got the Detox team here buzzing. I’m talking about H&M’s Restricted Substance List, a detailed version of which appeared for the first time on the company’s website this month.

Vegetarians won’t change the fishing industry

Without fail, anytime I blog about more sustainable fish there will be at least one comment along the lines of ‘go vegan’ or ‘no one needs to eat fish anyway!’ That is of course fine and a viewpoint I (as a vegetarian of 25 years and counting) can certainly sympathise with.
