Commenting on the LibDem manifesto, Greenpeace UK chief scientist Dr Doug Parr said:

"If many of these pledges on energy and nature protection were to be enacted it would be a huge win for the environment. Now we need to know where the red lines are in any negotiations with potential coalition partners, and how high up the priority list environmental improvement is for the Lib Dems. Are their red lines green?"

"There are welcome promises to create new marine reserves in the southern Atlantic ocean, and to prevent fishing by EU vessels in the previously unfished Arctic ocean. And there are potentially agenda-setting pledges on stretching renewable energy targets, pushing international ambition on climate change, and getting important policies like energy efficiency and green innovation into wider housing and business policy. The promise to oppose new runways in the south-east is welcome, but only if it is a coalition red line."

"The manifesto seems to recognise that around the coastline, fishermen are angry that they have been ignored by successive governments. The Lib Dem manifesto pledges to change this sorry record by implementing the reformed Common Fisheries Policy, which would see a greater share of fishing quota given to local, sustainable fishermen. This is a vital promise that must be kept as it would boost jobs, protect fish stocks and revitalise our crumbling coastal economies."
