Sir Paul is standing firm for the Arctic 30

Support for the Arctic 30 just went pop. In a really good way. And Sir Paul McCartney just made a sure-fire bid to become my favourite Beatle.

Today on his website Sir Paul published a personal letter to Vladimir Putin, in which the ex-Beatle calls for the Arctic 30 to be reunited with their families.

As the Arctic 30 reach day 55 of their detention, pressure grows around the world for their release. Messages of support have flooded in via social media, email and snail mail. AS TRANSFER OF ARCTIC 30 TO ST PETERSBURG BEGINS

11 November, 2013

London, 11th November 2013 – Arctic 30 moved by train from Murmansk to St Petersburg as families of UK nationals meet with minister at Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The transport to St Petersburg of thirty men and women detained by Russia following a peaceful protest at an Arctic oil platform started at around 5:00am Monday, local time. Greenpeace International understands the move is taking place by prisoner train. Lawyers for the thirty who tried to visit them in Murmansk this morning were told by officials at the detention centre that all thirty were already being transported.

We've just received incredible new footage that shows the moment Russian special forces abseiled onto the heli deck of the Arctic Sunrise and detained the crew at gun point.
