Bad advice at climate talks could increase deforestation and emissions

Posted by sebastianbock — 2 December 2011 at 11:08am - Comments

The big question that currently hangs over climate talks in Durban is whether or not the politicians will agree to sign a legally binding treaty by 2015 with mandatory emissions cuts. But the devil will be in the details, and management consultants pushing bad advice could have a big impact on our climate and rainforests.

Greenpeace campaigners in London today joined forces with a samba band and marched to the Brazilian Embassy in a last-ditch bid to save the Amazon.

The activists paraded from Hyde Park to the embassy in Mayfair, where a banner saying ‘Save the Amazon’ was hoisted on a lamp-post and the band played for the embassy staff.

Remember the photoshoot we staged outside a fashion industry event in Italy? The one reminding companies that make and use leather that the Amazon is not for walking over? Here's a great little video which I neglected to post last week, showing our models strutting their stuff for the rainforest.

Greenpeace UK’s executive director John Sauven was today prevented from entering Indonesia.

Sauven was blocked by immigration officials on arrival at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, despite having a business visa for his trip. He has been informed by officials that he will be deported immediately.

Just before 5pm local time (11am BST), Sauven was led away by security guards. The local Greenpeace office are currently trying to find out how why he has been deported despite holding all the correct paperwork. The British Embassy has been informed.

VW film competition: classic Greenpeace films - Ancient Forests

Posted by Richardg — 12 August 2011 at 11:07am - Comments

This September, we're running a film competition. We need your help to turn the cameras on Volkswagen and expose their dirty lobbying against laws to reduce our carbon emissions in Europe.

In the past, Greenpeace has worked with some amazing film makers, and they’ve made really creative films to support our campaigns. So each week between now and the start of the competition, we’ll be digging through our archives and showcasing some of the best.
