Northern Barh El-Ghazal, South Sudan
January 7, 2022— Authorities in Aweil confirmed that at least nine people have been killed in a separate attack perpetrated by the armed Missiriya militias in Northern Barh El-Ghazal state over the past five days.
Speaking to media, Kiir Yor Lual, the county commissioner of Aweil East said the two separate incidents took place in the areas of Kew and Nyalou which are around the area of Warguet.
Commissioner Lual accused the Missiriya armed groups of terrorizing these areas.
He said, the criminals have attacked the areas several times in which they killed people.
“The attack started on 28th of December. In the first attack, we lost three people and on 29th of December, they attacked again and killed one person, on 31st December, they attacked and killed a family of five people”, Commissioner told media.
He stressed that the total of victims killed were nine and most of them identified as civilians in these three different attacks.
“We don’t know what the cause of these incidents on our innocent civilians”, Lual added.
The top local official emphasized that the first attack occurred in a place called Kew, a place near Warguet and then the second attack occurred in a place called Nyanlou, also around the same area of Warguet and the third attack also happened in the same area.
Commissioner said the missiriya militias also attacked Panbol this morning.
Early this week, the missiriya armed militias attacked and killed innocent civilians in Abyei Administrative Area.
