Juba, South Sudan
November 6,2021—South Sudan’s President, Salva Kiir, has reconstituted state legislative Assemblies in four states yesterday, November 5th, 2021.
According to presidential decrees read on the state-owned SSBC, Kiir reconstituted legislative assemblies of Upper Nile, Lakes, Western Equatoria, and Central Equatoria States.
He named Peter Wani Elia on the ticket of SPM-IO as the speaker of the Central Equatoria legislative assembly deputized by member of South Sudan Opposition Alliance(SSOA), Dr. Salam Al-Haj Baballah.
He appointed members from different political parties that are signatories to the revitalized peace agreement in the state assemblies.
In a separate decree, President Kiir also appointed Chuol Dep Kier, representing the SPLM-IG, as the speaker of Upper Nile legislative assembly deputized by Pal Ruach Dup.
In Lakes state, Kiir appointed Ayiin Amel Adior of the SPLM-IG as the deputy speaker but has not yet announced who should be the speaker.
Kiir also reconstituted Western Equatoria state parliament and appointed several politicians from various parties as members of parliament.
This is the first attempt for Kiir to reconstitute state assemblies and now he is left to reconstitute the other six states that include Unity State, Northern Bahr El-Ghazal State, Eastern Equatoria, Warrap, Jonglei and Western Bahr El-Ghazal state.
The South Sudanese president, who is being criticizing for squandering another opportunity to restore peace and stability in the country, hardly explains what takes so long to reconstitute these assemblies and when the rest shall be reconstituted; however, the majority of South Sudanese, who are tired of war, would rather wait for president Kiir to take his humble time to implement the peace agreement.
