January 5, 2021 — On the eve of the new year, a group of top South Sudanese political leaders, together with some South Sudanese community leaders and representatives particularly from the four Nuer sections namely Liech, Phou, Eastern Jikany and Lou converged for a special dinner hosted by Member of Parliament for East African legislative Assembly (EALA) Gideon Gatpan Thoar, Former Unity State Information Minister and Former Mayiandit county commissioner.Â
The event was held on 31st December 2021 at one of Nairobi’s 5-star hotels adjacent to the Kenya commercial Airport. About 50 invited guests graced this rare and interactive occasion.Â
The top among the Very Important Persons (VIP) in attendance were land minister General Michael Chiangjeak Geay, newly elected SPLM party Secretary General, Peter Lam Both, EALA Mp. Gideon Gatpan Thoar, EALA Mp. Thomas Dut Gatkek, Ambassador Elijah Tut Bikot, Former Higher Education Minister Dr. Gai Yoah and Gpoc vice President, Diu Charao and Eng. Lony Keah Tut to mention but a few.Â
At the tail end of the dinner, SPLM Secretary General Peter Lam Both and EALA Mp Gideon Gatpan Thoar had a sit-down with some community leaders where the host Mp. Gideon Gatpan introduced the Secretary General to the community Leaders before making their brief remarks.
On their part, the community leaders expressed gratitude to Honorable Gideon Gatpan for inviting them to dine, wine and interact with their leaders at the eve of the new year. The SPLM Secretary Peter Lam Both who was accompanied by his wife, daughter of the late freedom fighter General William Nyuon said he was pleased with community leaders for honoring an invite from the host Mp. The SG went on to encourage young leaders to shun mediocrity saying one must ask: ‘‘what am I good or perfect at.’’ He told community leaders to work for unity and shun unnecessary divisions within and among all South Sudanese communities.Â
Honorable Gideon who is pursuing and finalizing his doctorate Degree at United State International University (USIU-Africa) in his words rooted for education, saying part of the reason for involving young community leaders in such occasion was to makes them learn and exchange contact for further consultation on a number of areas challenges the diaspora South Sudanese community in Kenya. The dinner ended on time successfully with another round of warm handshakes and the words of ‘‘happy and prosperous new year 2022.Â
