Four persons were killed and 10 others injured when a speeding passenger bus fell into a ditch at the popular step-down area of Ore in Odigbo LGA of Ondo state at the weekend, the police said.

The bus, identified as a Chisco Company luxurious bus with reg no KSF 93 YG, was on its way to Lagos when the driver lost control of the wheels and ran into the ditch.

Confirming the crash on Saturday in a statement, police spokesperson in Ondo, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, blamed the driver of the passengers’ bus for the lone accident.

Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya said the driver had been in transit from Port Harcourt before the crash occurred.

“Passengers of the vehicle were rushed to Grace of God hospital by the Police; four people confirmed dead and their remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary while 10 were injured and are being treated.

“Information has it that the vehicle left Port Harcourt for Lagos and on getting to the stepdown area of Ore, he lost control and entered a ditch which led to the accident,” she said in the copy of the statement obtained by Peoples Gazette.

While sympathising with the families of the victims, Mrs Odunlami-Omisanya urged transport companies to always check the well-being of their drivers before transporting passengers with their vehicles.

“The public are hereby advised to check on their loved ones who left for Lagos from Port Harcourt with Chisco Transport on the above-mentioned date,” she added.
