19.
THE MAN
But we cannot be silent and accept
our loss for the rest of our lives
because that would be unfair to our
daughter. Or, or perhaps we should
go talk to him, maybe force him to
marry her? What do you think? Would
that work?
THE GIRL'S MOTHER
(confused and recoiling again)
Marry? This black Amerasian? A
black Amerasian? She is only 16!
How can this be?
The more they talk, the deeper the impasse they find themselves in,
and the more their hatred grows. Suddenly the man becomes very
angry. He starts screaming.
THE MAN
Or I could go kill him. To avenge
our daughter, to make him pay
dearly for his crime. The miserable
mixed-race boy!
THE GIRL'S MOTHER
No! That is impossible. You will go
to jail if you kill him. And
anyway, how could you kill him? You
are weak, while he is like an
elephant, much bigger and much
stronger than you.
THE MAN
(His jaws tightening, his eyes glaring)
Why not? If I can't kill him with
my bare hands, I can use a knife or
a grenade. I have ways to kill him.
I will be able to kill him. Do you
understand?
