Gutter service includes two distinct components: interior cleanout (removing leaves, debris, pine needles, and standing water from inside the gutter channel and downspouts) and exterior brightening (removing the dark vertical streaks — called tiger stripes — that form on the outer face of aluminum gutters). Tiger stripes are caused by electrostatic bonding between airborne pollutants, oxidation residue, and the aluminum gutter surface during water runoff. These streaks cannot be removed with regular pressure washing alone — they require a specialized oxidation-dissolving cleaning agent applied by hand and rinsed at low pressure. Both interior and exterior gutter services are performed in a single visit.
The Streaks That Won't Rinse Off
The gutters were white when they were installed. Then a few summers passed. From the curb, the dark vertical streaks running down the outer face are the first thing you notice — particularly under each downspout joint, where the wind has blown rain water in concentrated columns over the lip and across the aluminum. Pressure washing the outside makes a small visible difference, then the streaks reappear after the next rain. Meanwhile, inside the gutter channel, leaves and pine needles have built up into a wet mat that traps standing water, breeds mosquitoes, and starts to rot the fascia behind the gutter.

Our 5-Step Gutter Cleaning & Brightening Process
Interior cleanout
All leaves, twigs, pine needles, shingle granules, and standing water are removed from the gutter channel by hand. Debris is bagged and removed from the property.
Downspout flush
Each downspout is flushed with a garden hose to confirm unobstructed flow. Clogged downspouts are cleared using a plumber's snake or pressurized water jet.
Flow test
Water is run through the entire gutter system to verify proper drainage slope and identify any sagging sections, loose brackets, or leaking seams.
Exterior brightening
A specialized gutter-brightening solution is applied to the outer face of the gutters using a soft scrub pad. The solution dissolves the electrostatic bond holding tiger stripe deposits to the aluminum.
Rinse and inspection
Gutters are rinsed clean and inspected for any remaining streaks. Problem areas receive a second application. Fascia boards behind gutters are inspected for signs of water damage or rot.

Tiger stripes are dark vertical streaks on the exterior face of aluminum gutters. They are caused by a chemical reaction between aluminum oxidation, airborne pollutants, and the water that runs over the gutter lip during rain. The resulting residue bonds electrostatically to the aluminum surface and cannot be removed by pressure washing alone — it requires a specialized chemical treatment.
We recommend interior gutter cleanout twice per year in Florida — once in late fall after leaf drop and once in late spring before hurricane season. Homes with heavy pine tree coverage may need quarterly cleanout. Exterior gutter brightening is typically needed every 2–3 years depending on the home's exposure.
We do not install gutter guards, but we can assess whether your gutters would benefit from them and recommend a local installer if appropriate. In our experience, gutter guards reduce but do not eliminate the need for periodic cleanout, particularly in areas with heavy pine needle debris.
