What happened to the Airplot?

There's a story on the Guardian website today which has thrown up questions about what happened to the land that we bought some years ago to block plans for a third runway at Heathrow. It claims that the land was sold back to its original owner (which is true, and with good reason) and that we didn't publicise this (which is also true, also with good reason).

As I write this, the Lancashire County Council planning committee charged with approving or rejecting Cuadrilla’s applications to frack for shale gas in the county, is at a stalemate. With seven members of its fifteen moving to approve the application at Preston New Road, seven standing to reject it, and one councillor abstaining, the vote - which was expected to be decided on Wednesday - has been delayed until Monday.

The North West Energy Task Force has been at it again. In the final days before Lancashire Council takes a critical decision over fracking, the Task Force’s PR team has fired into life and launched a new round of ads evangelising the benefits of shale gas.

On Wednesday, Lancashire County Council will be deciding whether to approve Cuadrilla’s plans to frack at sites in Lancashire. On the eve of their decision, hundreds of us from across Lancashire will gather outside the council offices in Preston to tell the council to keep fracking out of Lancashire.

A song of oil, ice and fire

British artists KennardPhillipps have created a new version of the painting 'An Arctic Summer: Boring Through the Pack in Melville Bay' by William Bradford. It shows an oil pipeline spill and rig explosion.

What would our world look like if the oil industry gets its way in the Arctic? That’s what we faced up to as we created our latest short film to challenge Shell, which could begin drilling in Arctic waters in just five weeks’ time.

‘A Song of Oil, Ice and Fire’ exposes how Shell’s greedy plan to drill for oil in the Arctic will jeopardise this unique place. It features classic American landscapes and reimagines them as destroyed by Shell and the oil industry. We wanted to evoke a powerful sense of what Shell is prepared to risk just to line its own pockets.
