Whistle-blower case has 'huge implications' for Greenpeace protesters
Tony Blair faces further embarrassment in less than a fortnight, when fourteen Greenpeace volunteers appear in court on charges relating to an anti-war protest. Their case has taken on great significance since the Crown Prosection Service (CPS) claimed the case against Katherine Gun was dropped because they could not "disprove the defence of necessity" -- that is to say, they could not counter the defence that her actions were justified to save lives.

London shoppers are getting a taste of the countryside today after Greenpeace released more than thirty costume cows into the flagship Sainsbury's store in Greenwich. The invasion is a protest against the supermarket chain's continued support for the GM industry.
Sainsbury's own-brand milk comes from cows fed on American GM animal feed. Although the company claims to lead its rivals in providing quality food, Sainsbury's is supporting the import of thousands of tonnes of GM into the UK every month.

Greenpeace today released new visual evidence of the impacts of climate change. Dramatic new photos of Patagonian glaciers taken by a research team on board the Greenpeace vessel Arctic Sunrise show the extent of glacier retreat this century, when compared to photos of the same glaciers taken from the same point in 1928.

Greenpeace has found seven dead dolphins in under three days while investigating fishing fleets in the English Channel. All the dolphins found had drowned and had suffered damaged beaks and torn flippers - injuries likely to have been caused trying to escape from huge fishing nets commonly used to 'pair trawl' in the area.

The Government's statutory adviser, ACRE (the Advisory Committee on Releases to the Environment), has released its interpretation of the results of the GM crop farm-scale evaluations (FSEs).
These four-year tests examined the impact that growing GM crops in the UK might have on wildlife. They specifically compared damage to wildlife caused by weed control in GM crops fields, with weed control associated with conventional crops. In essence, the tests examined the impact of different chemical herbicide use, rather than the GM crops themselves.

Biotechnology companies are attempting a corporate take-over of the entire food chain. Farmers, especially those in developing nations, have already lost out because of subsidies and tarrifs. Meanwhile the World Trade Organisation (WTO), led by the USA, plans to bully more countries into accepting GM seeds, GM crops and unlabelled GM foods.
The WTO promotes free trade for the gain of private interests, over and above our health and the environment. Greenpeace is opposed to the globalisation that is increasing corporate power, evidenced by the agenda of the WTO.
