climate change

Reacting to the news that the cowboy Scottish oil company Cairn Energy has abandoned a well having once again failed to find oil in Greenland, Greenpeace campaigner Ben Ayliffe said:
“Cairn Energy took a multi-million dollar gamble with the fragile Arctic environment and came up with nothing. This should be a lesson to other oil companies like Shell who are eyeing up new ventures among the ice bergs in the far North. What was already an unattractive investment now looks even riskier.”
Ayliffe added:

Volkswagen is lobbying against environmental laws in the US and Europe
Since we launched our campaign to turn VW away from the Dark
Side the response has been phenomenal. Over a quarter of a million people have
joined the Rebellion and a huge proportion – over 40,000 of them – are
Volkswagen drivers.
VW’s official response so far has been to act ‘surprised’
and point to their most efficient cars as proof of their environmental
credentials.

Stormtroopers in London on the campaign launch
This morning something momentous happened.
Our Jedi-o-meter hit 250,000.
One quarter of a million people - from all corners of the galaxy - calling on Volkswagen to stop blocking progress on climate change.

Cairn tugs drag icebergs out of the way of its Arctic drilling rig
A lot of people on Twitter, Facebook and elsewhere have been asking us a lot of questions about the interdict (injunction) - most of which we can't answer; we're gagged from saying anything that might be interpreted as asking others to do certain things on our behalf. We're so gagged that we probably can't even tell you what those certain things might be, in case that's seen as suggesting you do them.
So, in the public interest, we've decided to publish the full interdict (pdf). Feel free to download it, share it and discuss it; we'd be interested to hear your thoughts (although obviously we may not be able to reply).

Still from our film challenging Volkswagen's environmental record
We still have to turn VW away from the Dark Side, but we’ve
scored a small victory for internet freedom along the way.
A few days into our campaign while our Volkswagen film was
the most shared ‘ad’ in the world, YouTube suspended it after a complaint from
Lucasfilm.

Scottish oil company obtains legal
injunction apparently aimed at preventing publication of secret oil spill plans; legal order demands recall of polar bear pictures
The
controversial Scottish oil company who are spearheading a new Arctic oil rush
last night obtained an interdict (injunction) against Greenpeace. This
wide-ranging ‘gagging order’ requires Tweets and Facebook updates from the
environmentalists be redacted, and is apparently aimed at preventing the
publication of their secret Arctic oil spill response plan.
