As I write this, the Lancashire County Council planning committee charged with approving or rejecting Cuadrilla’s applications to frack for shale gas in the county, is at a stalemate. With seven members of its fifteen moving to approve the application at Preston New Road, seven standing to reject it, and one councillor abstaining, the vote - which was expected to be decided on Wednesday - has been delayed until Monday.

The North West Energy Task Force has been at it again. In the final days before Lancashire Council takes a critical decision over fracking, the Task Force’s PR team has fired into life and launched a new round of ads evangelising the benefits of shale gas.

Greenpeace urges government to release evidence before Cuadrilla decision next week

The UK’s transparency watchdog has ruled ministers must publish the full version of a heavily redacted report into the impacts of fracking following a year-long transparency campaign by Greenpeace UK.

The decision by the Information Commissioner Officer was made public today, just a week before Lancashire authorities are due to give a much anticipated verdict on two fracking applications by energy firm Cuadrilla.

The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs published a version of the report last year after coming under pressure from campaigners. But the document released to the public had 63 chunks of text missing, including on such sensitive issues as the impact of fracking on house prices, rural businesses, and local services. [1]

On the eve of their decision, hundreds of us from across Lancashire will gather outside the council offices in Preston to tell the council to keep fracking out of Lancashire.

Half of Lancashire residents worry about fracking impact on house values

Three quarters of Lancashire residents oppose ministers' plans to allow energy firms to frack under people’s homes whilst almost half of them are worried about the impact of shale drilling on house prices, a new survey shows.

The findings are published today as some Fylde residents living close to Cuadrilla’s potential drilling sites in the area have come forward claiming shale gas developments have already affected the value of their homes and put off potential buyers and tenants.

The poll results, which form the second part of a survey by leading marketing research agency Redshift for Greenpeace UK, show nearly half (45%) of the 500 Lancashire residents interviewed are worried about the impact of fracking on house prices, with one in five (21%) saying they are very concerned.

Lancashire voters three times more likely to vote for anti-shale candidates

The overwhelming majority of people in Lancashire want a moratorium on fracking until more research is available on the impacts of the controversial industry, with many shale sceptics ready to take their opposition to the ballot box, a new survey shows.

The fresh poll of 500 Lancashire residents released today shows nearly two thirds (63%) are in favour of a fracking ban, with an even stronger majority (69%) saying more time should be allowed for a public debate to take place before planning authorities decide on drilling licences.
