HSBC boss grilled on Greenpeace campaign at Davos

Last week we revealed that HSBC - the biggest bank in the UK - is funding palm oil companies who are destroying rainforests in Indonesia. People across the world have since demanded that HSBC stop its profit-hungry palm oil investments.

Every year on the 19th August the orangutan gets its own special day. One of the renowned victims of the palm oil industry the orangutans are threatened with extinction due to the destruction of the tropical rainforest. The population of the Sumatran orangutan in the wild is thought to have fallen by more than 50% from 1992-2000, due to the degradation of their habitat.

The orangutans, who for the first few years hold tight to their mother's body as she moves through the forest canopy, can live up to 45 years in the wild.

No more tears for tigers as Johnson & Johnson cleans up its palm oil

On Friday, Johnson & Johnson announced it would stop buying palm oil from companies destroying the rainforest. Now the onus is on the palm oil industry as a whole to leave its forest destruction behind.

Colgate agrees to stop buying dirty palm oil - but P&G is still dodging the issue

Great news: Colgate just agreed to stop buying palm oil from forest destroyers. Not only is this a win for fans of dental hygiene (and let's face it, no one wants orangutan breath) but it leaves Procter & Gamble more isolated than ever.
