It’s World Water Day on Saturday and this year’s theme highlights the facts that water is needed to produce nearly all forms of energy and the demand for both is rising.

I can’t believe it’s already three years since the Fukushima disaster struck. Thousands of people were forced to flee their homes and had to rebuild their lives elsewhere, because of the high levels of radiaition. Japanese photographer Noriko Hayashi documents the struggle of some of the victims, who feel the government has abandoned them.

Captain Pete Willcox is home, and the rest of the non-Russians in the Arctic 30 are either home as well or on their way. There have been some amazing scenes on their arrival home - here are a few of my favourite photos from the last two days.

We’ve had a fantastic, hot summer this year, cooling down with a drink of water whenever needed.

So when I look at Bo Qiu’s photo feature of water shortages in Inner Mongolia it is a strong reminder that easy access to clean water is not a given for everyone.
