Save The Arctic

On 15 September we will haul a giant people-powered polar bear through central London. Aurora is part protest, part performance - all Arctic. She is a giant super-puppet - the size of a double decker bus - and her fur carries the names of each and every member of the movement to save the Arctic.

With any luck, as you read this I’ll be clinging to the side of the Shard, hundreds of metres up in the sky.

But as I write this, with less than a week to go, I’m just feeling... tired. I have sores on my shoulders from training with backpacks full of weights, and every night brings tiresome dreams about carabiners and tangled ropes.

Last Saturday, more than 10,000 of us in more than 280 cities came together in a declaration of love for the Arctic. Thousands of volunteers, all around the world, speaking with one voice to send a clear message to politicians: the Arctic belongs to everyone.

Before I got involved in my local Greenpeace group, I remember thinking, am I the only person who cares about this? Today, I know that I'm part of an unstoppable movement to protect the planet from greed.
