Volkswagen says it wants to be the most eco-friendly car manufacturer in the world. But it’s spending millions trying to stop laws to make cars more efficient and cut climate change emissions.

On September 17, Greenpeace is launching an international film competition. We need your help to expose the real VW – the one behind the billboards.

Since we launched our campaign to turn VW away from the Dark Side the response has been phenomenal. Over a quarter of a million people have joined the Rebellion and a huge proportion – over 40,000 of them – are Volkswagen drivers.

VW’s official response so far has been to act ‘surprised’ and point to their most efficient cars as proof of their environmental credentials.

A lot of people on Twitter, Facebook and elsewhere have been asking us a lot of questions about the interdict (injunction) - most of which we can't answer; we're gagged from saying anything that might be interpreted as asking others to do certain things on our behalf. We're so gagged that we probably can't even tell you what those certain things might be, in case that's seen as suggesting you do them.

So, in the public interest, we've decided to publish the full interdict (pdf). Feel free to download it, share it and discuss it; we'd be interested to hear your thoughts (although obviously we may not be able to reply).

We still have to turn VW away from the Dark Side, but we’ve scored a small victory for internet freedom along the way.

A few days into our campaign while our Volkswagen film was the most shared ‘ad’ in the world, YouTube suspended it after a complaint from Lucasfilm.

VW Viral Video: The Jedi Strike Back

A little over two weeks ago, we launched our VW campaign with our spoof video of the company’s Darth Vader advert.

It instantly went viral, becoming the most shared ‘ad’ worldwide (see pic on the right).

Following last week's dramatic shutting down of our rebel communications channel (YouTube to you, humans), the Rebellion has bounced back. Our videos are now everywhere - thanks to you brave Jedi - and our ranks are swelling faster than we ever thought possible.
