Summary

This report describes the multiple threats now jeopardising the marine life and ecology of the North Sea and Baltic Sea. It proposes an approach to countering these threats involving the establishment of networks of large-scale marine reserves in which fishing and other extractive activities are prohibited. Finally, it considers what progress has already been made towards the effective conservation of the North and Baltic Seas, and assesses the opportunities towards that goal afforded by recent political developments.

During this expedition, which mainly surveyed the Western Approaches of the English Channel, a total of 12 dead dolphins of which 10 were identified as common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) were found floating in the water. Environmental Principles of Radioactive Waste Management

Last edited 20 May 2004 at 8:00am
Publication date:

Summary

The UK nuclear industry, its regulators, government agencies and policy advisory bodies have in recent years attempted to change policies and activities related to nuclear waste management. Many of these have failed in gaining public support. This lack of confidence is, Greenpeace believes, due primarily to the fact that the policies and their implementation are not based on clear environmental principles.

This Greenpeace briefing highlights the major failures in current policy, and addresses possible solutions.
