There's further bad news for Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) as yet more companies around the world ditch their contracts with the unscrupulous forest-trashing company. Hot on the heels of Mattel and Lego, today Hasbro announced a new paper-buying policy.

Toy giant Mattel, the company behind Barbie, announced today that it will stop buying paper and packaging linked to rainforest destruction following a global campaign by Greenpeace.

As part of its new commitments, Mattel is instructing its suppliers to avoid wood fiber from companies “that are known to be involved in deforestation.”

One such company is the notorious Asia Pulp and Paper group (APP), which Greenpeace investigators have shown to be involved in widespread rainforest clearance in Indonesia.

You read that right – following over half a million emails sent by you, Barbie has realised that toying with deforestation is no game. Mattel, the company behind Barbie, has decided that being involved in the destruction of Indonesia's rainforests is bad for business as well as the planet, and has dropped deforestation from its production line.

Has Hasbro been naughty or nice?

It's July so the last thing any sane person will be thinking about is Christmas. Not so for those in the toy business because, with only 165 shopping days to go, they're looking ahead to the festive season.

Take Hasbro, for instance. Today, product and marketing managers have been showing off the new lines for Christmas to retailers and journalists and we thought we'd pop along as well.

Our Barbie campaign has struck a cord with many people and when you realise how ridiculous it is that rainforest timber ends up in disposable toy packaging, it's not surprising. It's also not surprising that it's having an effect on the ultimate end users of Mattel's products – kids.
