Dallas, Texas. Business at the international headquarters of ExxonMobil, parent company of Esso, the world's most powerful company ground to a halt this morning as the Greenpeace Global Warming Crimes Unit converged on at their compound in Irving, Texas. The move comes as ExxonMobil's Board of Directors and international executives attempt to gather from across the world for tomorrow's Annual General Meeting.

Don't Buy Esso: Bad CompanyEsso (also known as ExxonMobil) is the most powerful company in the world, and one of the biggest. Esso will stop at nothing to keep its largest market, the USA, addicted to oil. This oil addiction is fuelling war and causing global warming, putting millions of lives at risk.

Dirty politics
Esso has always opposed any policy that would reduce the need for oil in the US. It is no coincidence that Esso's campaign has met with increasing success since George W Bush entered the White House. Esso helped him get there.

Bush's road to the White House was paved with oil money. Esso gave more dollars to the Republican Party than any other oil company in the lead-up to Bush's election in 2000.

The case against Esso

You could say that all big oil companies are the bad guys of global warming. They have discovered more oil than we can use without causing irreversible damage to the climate, and they continue to search for more.

But Esso (ExxonMobil) gets the prize! Why? Because Esso:

  • Esso powers the throne of George Bush
    Esso donated $1,086,080 to George Bush's Republican Party at the start of his election campaign. Unsurprisingly, Bush then did exactly what the oil giants wanted, pulling the United States out of the Kyoto protocol as soon as he was elected!

The Stop Esso campaign today launched an international week of action against the oil giant, which culminates on Saturday with protests outside more than 400 garages across the United Kingdom.

Stop Esso week was launched in response to the corporation's role in the sabotage of international action on global warming. Esso (ExxonMobil) has done more than any other company to block efforts to reverse climate change. It has run a ten year dirty tricks campaign against scientists and politicians who think we should reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Summary
The latest of Exxon's outrageous dirty tricks to distort climate science, this memo demands the Bush administration to oust the head of the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - a supposedly independent panel.
