Greenpeace will be giving away thousands of litres of free green fuel to motorists at our Guerrilla Garage.

The garage is located at:
309 - 313 City Rd, on the corner of City Rd and Remington St (N1), 5 - 10 minutes walk from Angel tube station.

Greenpeace will be giving away thousands of litres of free green fuel to motorists at a central London location on Monday 13th November. The Greenpeace Guerrilla Garage will be dispensing bio-diesel - a plant-based fuel that is identical to ordinary diesel but only causes a fraction of the damage to the climate. Bio-diesel is widely used in conventional diesel engines in Germany and is guaranteed totally safe for British motorists. Bio-diesel is not commercially available in the UK despite the fact that Britain exports vegetable oil to France for bio-diesel production.

A mobile team from Greenpeace will be challenging the fuel protest convoy along the entire length of their route. The volunteers - travelling in vehicles powered by green fuels such as compressed natural gas and bio-diesel [1] - will argue the case for high taxes on oil-based fuels. Greenpeace believes that Gordon Brown was wrong to reduce the cost of oil-based petrol and diesel because of the impact they have on climate change.

Greenpeace today condemned Gordon Brown for buckling to pressure and cutting diesel taxes by 3 pence.

Greenpeace and the RAC Foundation today joined forces to demand that Gordon Brown create a Green Fuel Fund of £00 million a year to protect the climate and human health by promoting alternatives to oil.

Responding to the Prime Minister's speech on the environment at the Green Alliance/CBI forum, Greenpeace Executive Director, Peter Melchett said:

"We are pleased that the Prime Minister today accepted the Royal Commission's case that we need to cut C02 emissions by at least 60% by 2050 and his recognition that this will have to mean substantial investment in offshore wind, solar and other renewable technology (1). His announcement of some new money for offshore wind is a welcome first step but we need to see the Government move much further and more quickly."

Greenpeace today launched a new online consumer guide to help shoppers find out whether the foods they are buying really are non-GM. The guide covers a wide range of food, including top brands as well as supermarket own brands. It highlights whether companies have a policy of avoiding derivatives of GM crops, such as GM soya oil, and whether their dairy and meat products come from animals fed on genetically modified crops.

The guide is launched as new evidence raised questions about the advisability of feeding animals with GM crops. Recent studies for the Advisory Committee on Animal Feedstuffs (ACAF) found that, contrary to their expectations, DNA from plants survives feed processing and shows up in animal feed. Scientists on the Committee 'expressed surprise' and called for more studies to follow up the findings.

Greenpeace today (01.00am) ended the occupation of the 100 metre chimney at Edmonton incinerator after supplies of food and water ran out. The volunteers had successfully occupied the chimney for four days in the face of appalling weather conditions.

As a result of the Greenpeace occupation:

Government figures from the Department of Health show that current emissions from Edmonton incinerator are expected to result in fifteen deaths every year. The figure will increase to twenty-two if the proposed expansion of Edmonton incinerator goes ahead.

Cllr Rupert Perry (Chair of North London Waste Authority, the co-owners of Edmonton) said on BBC Newsroom South East that the Edmonton incinerator is "very clean" but this view has already been contradicted by Environment Minister Michael Meacher who has said that there is 'no safe threshold' for incinerator emissions.
