February celebrates the world's largest bear, raising awareness about issues
like climate change and oil exploration which threaten the existence of this
impressive hunter.

We all took notice when
about 4.9 million barrels of oil were spilled into the Gulf of Mexico during
the Deepwater Horizon disaster, but the fact that about 30 million barrels of oil are spilled on Russian
land each year might be news to a lot of us.

We just take it for
granted: cleaning our teeth with an electric toothbrush in the morning,
unlimited texting, tweeting and snap-chatting with our friends on the way to work, safe and well-lit streets, superfast
internet access from our desk, the list goes on.
But for 300 million
people in India this is not a given as they are still waiting for electricity.

MY Arctic Sunrise is making her way through ice in the fjord of Scoresbysund as part of her tour of Greenland in 2005
I'm so happy to hear that the Arctic Sunrise is finally released by Russian
authorities after months in custody! That's great news, but she should never have been detained in the first place as she
was in international waters during a peaceful protest against Arctic oil drilling when she was seized. Some of my favourite photos of the ship show her in remote locations in harsh conditions.

A Hawksbill turtle on Apo Island, internationally acknowledged as a model community managed marine reserve.
Today is World Turtle Day, a great opportunity to celebrate some of the world’s oldest creatures as well as draw attention to the sea turtles' plight. Terrific turtles have been swimming the world's oceans for more than 100 million years, but now face many dangers as they travel the seas.

Rainforest close to the city of Altamira. A Greenpeace team is in the area to witness the "Cachoeira Seca" (Dry Waterfall) Indigenous land, where illegal logging and land grabbing has been occurring.
Today Greenpeace published a 2-year investigation that shows how the logging industry threatens the Amazon rainforest. These photos show the illegal logging that's ransacking the forest and show what's at stake if the logging continues.

Last Friday was the penguins' special day. Now this Friday is World Tuna
day; and whilst the world's most popular fish might not be as cute as the waddling creatures, they are amazing wild species that are vital to the ocean ecosystem and deserve to have their story told.
