Greenpeace activists don radiation suits in Jakarta to highlight the dangers of nuclear power
Japan has added its name to the growing list of countries turning away from nuclear power. It's an historic blow to an industry already in decline and makes a British nuclear renaissance even less likely.

Greenpeace Energy Campaigner Richard George: “Japan’s decision to pull the plug on nuclear power is a major vote of no confidence from another of the world’s leading economies, following Germany’s phase-out decision last year. This is an historic blow to an industry already in decline and makes a British nuclear renaissance even less likely.

The government's climate change advisors yesterday announced that George Osborne's plans to pave the way for a new generation of dirty, expensive gas power could be illegal, but will the Lib Dems stand up to him now?

This morning Labour leader Ed
Miliband used his speech on the economy at the London Stock Exchange to attack
the Chancellor George Osborne for “posing the environment and the economy as
alternatives.”
Responding, Greenpeace’s
executive director, John Sauven, said:
“George Osborne must stop
holding back Britain’s low-carbon businesses. Everybody from the CBI to the
Labour leadership to green groups are now urging him to back these growing
industries.

Reducing CO2 emissions from energy generation is key to tackling climate change. Over the coming years, the UK's ageing coal, gas and nuclear power stations will need replacing and we have to decide what comes next. Do we want a clean energy future and a
thriving green economy or do we rebuild the expensive, polluting energy dinosaurs?
We're campaigning for a clean energy future. A stronger green economy with new jobs and growth. Clean, efficient renewable energy and to end CO2 emissions from electricity generation.

Davey and Clegg need to commit to carbon-free electricity by 2030
The future of the UK's energy supply - and our ability to hold back climate change emissions in Britain - is hanging in the balance. Nick Clegg and the Lib Dems must intervene to protect the Climate Change Act from George Osborne and his mates in the gas lobby.

New wind turbines are constructed at the Butterwick Moor Wind Farm.
The Chancellor’s assault on our climate must stop. It’s time for David Cameron and Nick Clegg to intervene and stop him.
