The government has finally published the long-awaited Energy Bill. There's much to like, but it's still missing that vital commitment to clean electricity.

Responding to Energy Minister John Hayes' attack on wind farms, Greenpeace Energy Campaigner Leila Deen said:

“John Hayes’ petulant outburst adds to the Coalition’s growing energy shambles and to a deepening divide within Government between those who care about green growth and the economy and those who just want more oil and gas.

Here is a new minister veering off brief and publicly contradicting his bosses. His comments threaten jobs and his approach will drive up energy bills.

Reducing CO2 emissions from energy generation is key to tackling climate change. Over the coming years, the UK's ageing coal, gas and nuclear power stations will need replacing and we have to decide what comes next. Do we want a clean energy future and a thriving green economy or do we rebuild the expensive, polluting energy dinosaurs?

We're campaigning for a clean energy future. A stronger green economy with new jobs and growth. Clean, efficient renewable energy and to end CO₂ emissions from electricity generation.

Responding to news today that Chancellor George Osborne is set to hand-out half a billion pounds in subsidies to the gas industry, Doug Parr, head of policy at Greenpeace, said:

“Osborne’s going to hand over hundreds of millions of taxpayers’ money to the polluting and pricey gas industry. This is clearly bonkers, for economic and environmental reasons.

On Monday we shut down Centrica’s head office telling them to end the gas fuelled energy rip-off – to bring energy bills under control and reduce CO2 by investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
